A
BRIEF HISTORY
Way
back in 1976, Pinedale school teacher Arlinda McLaughlin approached
Spike Jorgensen about bringing in performing artists for the schools.
In May of that year the Utah Symphony, conducted by Maestro Maurice
Abravanel, performed a one-hour concert in the high school for
the students and community members. From this first performance,
programs and residencies were scheduled into the schools, first
in Pinedale and later Big Piney and, thus, The Pinedale Fine Arts
Council was born. Almost a year later, in 1983, PFAC received
The Governor’s Arts Award for the Outstanding Arts Organization
in the state. Co-Founder Jo Crandall would later receive the same
award in 2003. In our 2005-2006 season, PFAC presented our first
Broadway touring company performing "Gentleman Prefer Blondes."
And in our 2006-2007 season, PFAC celebrated its 30th anniversary
season.
SPONSORS
The
Pinedale Fine Arts Council is supported in part by a grant from
the Wyoming Arts Council, through funding from the Wyoming State
Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, which beleives
a great nation deserves great art. PFAC is also supported through
your donations as well as grant from Sublette BOCES, Western/Sublette
No. 9 BOCES, the Town of Pinedale, Sublette County School Districts
No. 1 and No. 9, Sublette County Recreation Board, VSA Arts of
Wyoming and the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF).
NOT
JUST A PRESENTING ORGANIZATION
Since
1976, the Pinedale Fine Arts Council has been presenting high
quality arts programs to the people of Sublette County. In addition
to our programming, we also provide a number of community outreach
programs and highly intensive school residencies to both school
districts in our county. It is our goal to offer everyone in our
community a truly artistic experience regardless of age.
SCHOOL RESIDENCIES
Each
year, the Pinedale Fine Arts Council works closely with Sublette
County school teachers and administators to present highly educational,
hands-on learning experience via our artist-in-residency program.
These programs may consist of a simple one-day writing exercise
featuring a prominent Wyoming writer, a band workshop or itmay
involve a multi-week long poetry residency capped off by an entire
school grade reading poetry aloud to one-another. It is also our
goal to present different artists and mediums each school year.
COMMUNITY
OUTREACH
We
also offer a number of community outreach programs aimed at providing
an arts experience to those members of our community who reside
in county senor centers and nursing phacilities. When presenting
an artist for our season ticket events we almost always present
that same artist to residents of both the Big Piney and Pinedale
senor centers. This allows us to reach our mission of reaching
out to our entire community and also generates interest to our
season ticket events. We also present artists to other small facets
of our community such as our county preschools and "mancamps"
(temporary living facilities for gas field employees).
MILLENIUM
ARTS AWARD
Each
year, PFAC awards one student in the Pinedale High School with
a $100 college scholarship as part of our Millenium Arts Award.
The winner of the award creates a small sculpture which is caste
in aluminum and attached to the Millenium Arts Sculpture in front
of the Pinedale High School. Designs are based on students applications
which ask for a paragraph on "why art is important to me"
as well as a drawing which illustrates this answer. The Millenium
Arts Award is now in its 8th year.
